Don Little Tells Police To Display Speed Limits Clearly Before Enforcing New Rules

Ghanaian actor Don Little has questioned aspects of the Ghana Police Service’s proposed speed limit enforcement system, raising concerns about its practical application, fairness and the need for motorists to receive adequate information before the measures are implemented.

In a video posted on his social media, the actor urged the Police to make speed limits clearly visible on roads so drivers can easily identify the maximum speeds permitted in different areas.

He argued that placing speed limit signs at strategic points would give motorists a better understanding of the regulations and reduce the likelihood of accidental violations.

“Ghana Police, the speed limits you have been talking about will not favour us. Try to print them out and paste them on walls, or anywhere they will be visible to motorists while driving,” he said.

Apart from the visibility of road signs, Don Little raised questions about how the system would accommodate situations where motorists encounter vehicles travelling below the normal speed because of mechanical faults.

He questioned whether drivers heading to work or attending important engagements would be expected to remain behind a slow-moving vehicle even when the road ahead was clear enough to allow a safe overtake.

“Someone might be having problems with their car and may not be able to drive fast. Should we also follow that person when we are running late for work or heading somewhere important? If there is enough space in front of the vehicle, are we not allowed to overtake?” he queried.

The actor also turned his attention to convoys, particularly those involving police escorts, and sought clarification on whether such vehicles would be required to observe the same speed restrictions as ordinary motorists.

He further questioned whether the Police would apply the same penalties to drivers who allegedly use convoys or police escorts to travel against traffic on one-way roads.

“Will those who drive against traffic on one-way roads with the help of convoys or police escorts also be fined?” he asked.

Funeral processions and convoys attending other social events were also part of his concerns, with the actor seeking to know whether they would face sanctions if their movements violated the prescribed speed limits.

Don Little subsequently raised the issue of equal treatment under the enforcement system, questioning whether people with influential connections would face the same consequences as other motorists.

He specifically mentioned the children of government officials, asking how the Police would demonstrate that they were not being spared when they committed traffic offences.

“If an honourable person’s child also commits a speeding offence, what will you do? How will we know that you have sent them messages as well to inform them that they have been fined?” the actor questioned.

He also called for more information about the technology being used to identify speeding motorists, expressing uncertainty about whether the cameras installed along major roads were connected to the monitoring system.

“You operate this machine in a car. I am not sure the cameras installed along the streets are the ones working, so we really need some explanations,” Don Little further stated.
