English-Ghanaian defender, Jarell Quansah stepped up in attack to salvage a 1-1 draw for Bayer Leverkusen against Mainz 05 at the BayArena.
With time running out, Quansah struck in the 88th minute, turning in Christian Kofane’s cross to cancel out Sheraldo Becker’s opener midway through the second half.
Leverkusen had dominated possession and chances but were punished in the 67the minute when Becker broke the deadlock after a clever assist from Paul Nebel.
Kasper Hjulmand’s side pushed hard, introducing fresh legs in attack, and their pressure finally paid off when Quansah arrived in the box like a centre-forward to grab a deserved point.
Quansah’s display capped another strong Bundesliga outing in 2025/26, in which he has played 19 games and scored 3 goals.
Bayer Leverkusen now turn their attention to their next Bundesliga fixture away to Hamburger SV on Wednesday, March 4, as they look to turn hard-fought draws into vital wins in the run-in.
