Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician Kofi Nti has opened up about the harsh realities many Ghanaian musicians face in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding their booking fees.

He revealed that the amounts they often receive from show promoters are far below their worth, underscoring a significant disconnect between their brand value and financial compensation.

Speaking during an interview with Fiifi Praat, Kofi Nti reflected on his own experiences. When asked whether he had ever been paid £4,000 for a performance in the UK, he candidly admitted, “I have never received such an amount.”

His response sheds light on a broader issue, as he explains how promoters prioritize their profits over fairly compensating artists.

“Promoters are more focused on recouping their investments, and this leaves very little for the artist. It’s a tough situation,” Kofi Nti remarked.

He also shared that private events and individual engagements often provide better paychecks for artists compared to larger, promoter-driven shows.

Private events are where we see substantial payments because those who invite us appreciate our craft and are willing to pay for it,” he added.

Kofi Nti’s comments strike a chord in an industry where many artists are struggling to earn what they deserve.
