Rising Ghanaian artiste AratheJay has shared how his personal emotions and troubles fueled the creation of his hit song “Jesus Christ”.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, the musician recalled how he had been away from home for an extended period and could not go back due to undisclosed issues.

“I was just sad, for some reason. I hadn’t been home for some time, and I couldn’t go home due to some issues. I don’t really recall what it was,” he recalled in the interview with Elsie Lamar.

AratheJay added that he eventually opened up to his close friend and producer, “BillyDray” who convinced him to put it in a song.

“He said that I could put it in a song, which I agreed to. He called another friend, Purple, and they sat there waiting for me to begin recording. It wasn’t until late in the evening that I finally decided to record. But they were there for me,” he said.

The result was a raw and emotional track that spoke about his inner turmoil yet showed his determination and resilience.

“The song was a true statement of what I was going through at the moment and how I didn’t want to talk about my problems but rather be like “no matter what, we don’t give up,” he stated.

“Jesus Christ” featuring BillyDray went on to become AratheJay’s breakout song, propelling him to the charts and making him a household name.

The song was further boosted by the release of ‘Jesus Christ 2’ in August 2024, featuring Black Sherif, which is still topping charts to this day.

AratheJay added that he listens to his songs, which have the power to uplift both listeners and himself.

“I thank God for such songs; they uplift not just people. Because I’m not in a good mood all the time, and whenever I’m sad, I listen to my songs.,” AratheJay added.
