Ghanaian actor and media personality Harold Amenyah has shared the romantic story behind his decision to marry wife Irene Owusu exactly one year to the day they first met, April 1.

In an interview on UCook with Empress Gifty, Amenyah disclosed that they first crossed paths on April 1, 2022, and chose to honor their first anniversary by exchanging vows in a private ceremony on the same date in 2023.

“I was single for three years before I met her. Exactly one year after I met her, we got married on our anniversary.

“People were asking if I was joking since it was set on April Fools Day, but I was being serious,” he shared.

The intimate wedding ceremony was carefully curated to reflect the couple’s values, with only 100 close friends and family in attendance.

“My wedding was very private. Even when we were inviting people. We stated that no phones were allowed. Not one blogger was invited. It was just for 100 guests,” he shared.

However, the couple’s wishes were compromised when some attendees leaked photos online, unexpectedly thrusting Irene into the public eye.

“It started spreading around on WhatsApp, maybe a friend or family member took a picture just to prove that he or she was there. And people were hungry for content. Even the fact that it was private made it go viral,” he said.
