Black Starlets suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to ten-man Senegal in their second Group D game at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite being reduced ten men following El Hadj Sow’s red card, the Young Lions of Teranga managed to seal all three points in the end.

Just on the stroke of half-time, Isaac Barfo was presented with a penalty, a huge opportunity to put Ghana ahead but had his hit saved and this was after Eric Adu Gyamfi has had his early goal ruled out for an offside bt VAR.

The tightly contested encounter was decided in the 57th minute when Ibrahim Dione found the back of the net to hand Senegal all three points.

Ghana pushed hard for an equaliser after going behind and created several chances, especially in the final ten minutes of the game, but failed to convert any of them as Senegal held on for victory.

The result leaves the Black Starlets as the only side without a win in the group so far, having surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Algeria in their opening match.

Meanwhile, Algeria climbed to the top of Group D following an impressive 2-0 victory over South Africa in the other group fixture.

Ghana will now turn attention to their final group game against South Africa on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, where victory could still boost their hopes of progressing to the next stage of the competition.
