Kofi Sarpong is a Gospel singer and doubles as a Police officer as well

Polls by Global InfoAnalytics and other independent institutions have often revealed that security agencies such as the Ghana Police Service and the Immigration Service are perceived as the most corrupt institutions in the country.

However, Gospel singer Kofi Sarpong, who also serves as a police officer with the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), has stated that he has never taken a bribe in his entire career, as a police officer and as a Gospel artiste.

He made this statement during an interview on Hitz FM on January 26, 2026, after a listener sent in a question asking whether he had ever taken a bribe in the line of duty as an ACP or in his music career.

I used to beg for clothes for church – ACP Kofi Sarpong recounts

Responding with laughter, the “Ohaw Ne Obre” composer said, “Not at all… never.”

When asked further if he had ever been offered or pressured to take a bribe, he indicated that he had never been pressured or offered a bribe before.

On whether climbing higher in the police service might affect how often he releases music, Kofi Sarpong said it would depend on the workload, but stressed that his talent comes from God, so if he rises further, he will still sing whenever the opportunity comes.

“It will depend on the workload on me but the talent is from God and I can’t hide it. So, when I climb up the ladder, any opportunity that I will have, I will do what God asked me to do,” he noted.

ACP Kofi Sarpong also spoke about his creative process, stating that some of his songs are written by others while some are written by himself.
