Evelyn Agyekum, the mother of Black Stars debutant Lawrence Agyekum, was filled with joy and gratitude after watching her son play for the national team in their 5-0 win over Chad.
Agyekum made his debut in the victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025, coming on as a substitute for Thomas Partey in the 83rd minute.

“I am really proud of him. I’ve been proud of him from the very beginning. I know God made this possible, and He is the reason why all of this is happening, so I’m very, very grateful. I also thank the Black Stars’ technical team for giving him a call-up.”
She also revealed that this was her first time watching a football match at the stadium, describing the experience as amazing.
“This is my first time being in a stadium, so it’s amazing.”
Albert Agyekum, the player’s brother, was equally excited and optimistic that the Cercle Brugge midfielder could earn a starting spot in the next game against Madagascar, following his impressive cameo.
Lawrence Agyekum received a late call-up to replace Elisha Owusu, who was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.
