Evelyn Agyekum, the mother of Black Stars debutant Lawrence Agyekum, was filled with joy and gratitude after watching her son play for the national team in their 5-0 win over Chad.

Agyekum made his debut in the victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025, coming on as a substitute for Thomas Partey in the 83rd minute.

Reacting to her son’s debut, his mother expressed excitement and thanked God while also appreciating the Black Stars’ technical team for giving him the opportunity to wear the national team jersey.

“I am really proud of him. I’ve been proud of him from the very beginning. I know God made this possible, and He is the reason why all of this is happening, so I’m very, very grateful. I also thank the Black Stars’ technical team for giving him a call-up.”

She also revealed that this was her first time watching a football match at the stadium, describing the experience as amazing.

“This is my first time being in a stadium, so it’s amazing.”

Albert Agyekum, the player’s brother, was equally excited and optimistic that the Cercle Brugge midfielder could earn a starting spot in the next game against Madagascar, following his impressive cameo.

Lawrence Agyekum received a late call-up to replace Elisha Owusu, who was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.

The former Red Bull Salzburg player earned his place in the squad after a series of impressive performances in the Belgian Pro League.
