Popular MC/Hypeman, Kojo Manuel

Popular Ghanaian MC and hypeman, Kojo Manuel, has recounted a harrowing near-death experience following a violent robbery attack he suffered shortly after completing university.

In a post shared on X on January 19, 2026, Kojo Manuel narrated that the incident occurred while he was escorting a female friend from a hostel in Madina.

“She was escorting me back to Firestone to pick a ride when a taxi passed us and I noticed the people in the car staring.

“A police patrol passed us a minute later, then about 3 minutes afterwards, the taxi came back from the same direction as before,” he narrated.

According to Kojo Manuel, two men armed with cutlasses emerged from the vehicle and demanded their valuables.

Kojo Manuel said he made a desperate attempt to disarm one of the attackers, leading to a violent struggle.

“In an act of poorly calculated chivalry I made an attempt to disarm one of them that led to a tussle.

“Long story short, I passed out after being hit in the head, and 3 cuts (2 were minor but one nearly took my arm off). Afterwards, people in the neighborhood came out and proceeded to blame us for being there at that time of the night,” he added.

An enraged Kojo Manuel said he verbally lashed out at the onlookers, frustrated that no one responded to his cries for help during the attack.

However, Kojo Manuel revealed that three hospitals refused to admit him despite his critical condition and heavy blood loss.

“I proceeded to insult all of them in the most vulgar way possible. My friend was thankfully unarmed and we found a taxi to take me to the hospital because I was losing so much blood.

“About 3 hospitals rejected me and I could hardly open my eyes. I felt so tired. Everything hurt, even opening my eyes felt like work, I had no strength in my arms and legs,” he said.

Exhausted and fading in and out of consciousness, he recalled feeling an overwhelming urge to sleep.

“I was half asleep when I heard the driver ask my friend, ‘why is he so quiet? Is he awake?’ She responded, “oh yeah he just wants to take a nap” …and that’s when I heard the statement that featured in my nightmares for about 6 months.

“The driver said, “…no no no, don’t let him sleep, if he sleeps, he’ll die,” he narrated.

Kojo Manuel said that statement remained a recurring nightmare for about six months after the incident.
