Alexander-Arnold has faced backlash for departing Liverpool for free Alexander-Arnold has faced backlash for departing Liverpool for free

Some aggrieved Liverpool fans have resorted to expressing their displeasure on social media following the departure of defender Trent Alexander-Arnold from the club at the end of the 2024/2025 season.

On May 5, 2025, Arnold explained that his decision to leave the club was taken after thorough reflection on his career, as it would help him change environments and compete at a different level to bring out the best in himself.

The Liverpool defender noted that he has been with the team since childhood and has won most of the trophies in his career; however, he believes it is time for him to move on, even though it won’t sit well with most of the fans.

Indeed, some supporters of the ‘Reds’ were angry with the player for leaving his boyhood club without earning any fee to compensate for his loss and aid the team’s finances.

Others, who were absolutely furious, burned Trent’s jersey, took a video, and shared it on social media to showcase their annoyance with the player’s departure.

There were those who expressed their disappointment in the right-back for leaving the club on a free transfer and possibly joining their European rivals, Real Madrid if a deal is sealed.

Arnold played 352 games, scored 23 goals, and made 92 assists during his spell at Liverpool.

He also won eight titles with the club, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool supporters aren’t fussed about Trent leaving the club, we’re upset in the manner he’s leaving the club.

The scouser in the team, ran down his contract knowing he’ll leave for free. That’s what’s frustrating us.

more annoyed he’s leaving on a free tbh. if Liverpool were to get money from him leaving I wouldn’t be as annoyed I’d just be sad and gutted but greatful for what he’s won at the club since I’ve supported Liverpool back in 2013

Bit gutted but nobody is bigger than the club

    — B (@ChrisBe75946129) May 5, 2025

Losing a £100m player for nothing is a minor disaster for the club. They should have forced through a resolution 2 years ago in hindsight (either re-signed or sold him), but Edwards wasn’t at the club then and Klopp might have been too sentimental in his handling of the situation

    Horrible.

Do not play him another minute.

Also, do not encourage him to clap The Kop last game, might as well not even turn up

    Unfavorable decision

    Keep him off the pitch

    Avoid any farewells

I personally don’t like players leaving for free…. It’s annoying after all that the club has spend on you.

    — khartel (@kojokhart6) May 5, 2025

Mane left a legend, Trent is leaving as a rat
