Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that popular American streamer and YouTuber IShowSpeed will be issued a Ghanaian passport following his recent visit to the country.

The North Tongu MP disclosed the development in a social media post, stating that the decision followed discussions and confirmation of the content creator’s ancestral and cultural ties to Ghana.

Ablakwa also credited renowned Ghanaian YouTuber and travel influencer Wode Maya for playing a key role in facilitating the engagement that led to the approval.

“Following our discussions and subsequent confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana, I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed,” Ablakwa stated.

IShowSpeed, born Darren Watkins Jr., visited Ghana as part of his wider Africa tour, during which he explored cultural landmarks, interacted with local communities, and connected with young creatives and digital content creators. His activities in Accra, including visits to popular sites and collaborations with Ghanaian influencers, attracted massive attention on social media and further amplified Ghana’s visibility among global youth audiences.

Ablakwa praised both IShowSpeed and Wode Maya for their role in promoting Ghana internationally, encouraging them to continue projecting the country and the African continent positively.

“Keep making our great nation Ghana, and our beloved African continent proud,” he said.

He further referenced their previous recognition by the state, adding, “Ghana celebrates you both. You remain our worthy ambassadors, and we are ever so delighted to have granted you a diplomatic passport last year.”

The Foreign Affairs Minister concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to strengthening relationships with the African diaspora and global cultural figures who positively promote the country.

“For God, Country & Continent,” Ablakwa wrote.

The announcement has since sparked excitement online, with many Ghanaians welcoming IShowSpeed’s growing connection to the country and applauding efforts to use culture and digital influence to boost Ghana’s global image.
