Asante Kotoko narrowly defeated Hearts of Oak 1-0 in a fiercely contested Super Clash of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 9, 2025.

The match’s turning point occurred just before halftime when Kotoko were awarded a penalty for a challenge inside the box by Amankwah Baafi on Peter Amidu Acquah.

Morifing Donzo of Kotoko calmly converted from the spot, putting the Porcupine Warriors ahead. The penalty sparked debate among fans but ultimately proved decisive, as Hearts failed to overturn the deficit.

Hearts of Oak responded strongly in the second half, creating numerous chances. Raphael Amponsah had a notable long-range shot, and a blocked pass nearly set up Hamza Issah, but the Phobians could not find the back of the net.

In stoppage time, Mawuli Wayo’s spectacular goal was disallowed for offside after consultation between referee Amoah and his assistants, preserving Kotoko’s lead.

Kotoko set the tone early with promising efforts from Saaka Dauda and Hubert Gyau, while Hearts struggled initially to find their rhythm. Statistically, Kotoko held a slight edge with six shots to Hearts’ five, and three shots on target compared to one for the visitors.

Possession was evenly matched throughout the contest. This victory marked Kotoko’s fourth win in the last five league clashes with Hearts of Oak.

Kotoko move to seventh in the league standings, five points behind the leaders, despite having played three fewer matches.

Hearts suffered their first league defeat of the season and prepare to face Swedru All Blacks midweek as Kotoko travel to Vision FC.
