Ghanaian musician and former SRC President of the University of Ghana, Guru, has opened up about what he has described as deliberate sabotage that led to the failure of an SRC artistes’ event organized during his time in office.

Speaking during a TikTok live session, the “Lapaz Toyota” hitmaker recounted how some colleague students allegedly worked behind the scenes to undermine his efforts by spreading false claims about the event’s funding.

According to Guru, certain individuals reached out to musicians and stakeholders, alleging that he had already received full sponsorship for the event — a claim he said was entirely untrue.

The rapper clarified that he operated with a limited budget of GHS 200,000, which was grossly insufficient to organize a high-profile campus concert featuring top-tier artistes.

“Do you know how much it takes to host an event? Sometimes it costs between ₵500,000 and ₵700,000, but I was working with just ₵200,000. How much would we have even paid Sarkodie or Black Sherif?” Guru lamented.

He explained that he had hoped to leverage his industry connections and personal influence to bring big artistes on board at minimal cost, but his efforts were derailed by internal sabotage.

“Some students called the artistes and the event organizer, telling them not to support me because I had already received money. That wasn’t true,” he said.

Guru further expressed disappointment over the lack of unity and support within the student community, emphasizing that the event’s failure had nothing to do with his leadership or planning.

“So no one should come and ask me why the SRC event flopped. It flopped because of sabotage,” he fumed.
