There were shocks, standout performances and crucial victories as match-week 25 of the Ghana Premier League unfolded over the weekend. Several teams delivered impressive displays while others struggled to maintain their momentum.

In a surprising twist, the top four teams on the league table heading into the round all failed to win their matches, creating further uncertainty in the battle for the title and top spots.

Below is a summary of the results from the round.

    FRIDAY

    Nations FC 3-0 Bechem United

The Sky Blues kicked off the round in impressive fashion with a comfortable victory. Emmanuel Annor was the star of the game after producing a spectacular Puskás-like goal which will certainly become a major talking point. The win also extended Nations FC’s strong run of form.

    SATURDAY

    FC Samartex 0-0 Dreams FC

The ‘Still Believe’ lads delivered a disciplined performance to secure a valuable point away at Samreboi. The draw means the Timber Giants have now gone five matches without a win.

    Vision FC 3-1 Berekum Chelsea

It was an entertaining encounter with all four goals coming in the second half. Vision FC continued their impressive form as the ‘Ewuo Keke’ lads extended their unbeaten run to six matches, with three wins during that stretch.

    SUNDAY

    Karela United 1-0 Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko’s challenge was dented after Henry Ansu received a red card in the 40th minute. Just two minutes later, Malik Abubakar capitalised on the numerical advantage to score the decisive goal for the “Pride and Passion” side to claim all three points over the giants.

Accra Hearts of Oak 0-0 Basake Holy Stars

The Phobians delivered one of their most disappointing displays of the season, having finished the game with ten men after Kelvin Osei Asibey was sent off in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare however produced several important saves to keep the hosts in the match.

    Medeama SC 1-2 Hohoe United

League leaders Medeama suffered a shocking and their first home defeat of the season and it came against to the newcomers. The result extends their winless run to five games, dealing a blow to their hopes of lifting the league title.

    Young Apostles 3-1 Bibiani GoldStars

The champions were stunned in Wenchi despite coming into the match after a big win over Hearts of Oak. The defeat also brought their four-match winning streak to an end and also thrown a huge dent to their league winning hopes.

    Aduana FC 2-0 Eleven Wonders

The ‘Ogya’ lads returned to winning ways after going four matches without a victory, with the result pushing them back into the top four.

Heart of Lions 1-0 Swedru All Blacks

Michael Ephson scored the decisive goal to hand the Giant Killers a valuable victory, ending their three-game losing streak.
