Actress and film producer, Elorm Aba

Ghanaian actress and film producer Elorm Aba has claimed that the NPP government’s lack of attention to the creative industry has driven her to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In an interview with Neat FM, the actress addressed concerns about the decline of Kumawood, attributing the industry’s struggles to economic hardships and rising production costs.

She explained that the challenges faced by producers, particularly the high cost of equipment such as cameras, sound, and lighting, are key factors contributing to the situation.

“People say Kumawood is gone now or that many Kumawood creatives are now archaic. But that’s not the case. It’s because things are extremely hard now.

“The creative industry has been messed up by the government. Things are tough, especially for producers. If you want to make a movie, you have to buy expensive equipment, cameras, sound systems, lights, which are very costly,” she lamented.

In light of these challenges, Elorm Aba has expressed hope in former President John Mahama’s promise to build a film village and provide affordable equipment rentals for filmmakers, believing these initiatives could help revive the industry.

“If you are in a situation where you’re not being treated favourably, you will gravitate towards those who will treat you well,” she added.

She also dismissed allegations that her support for the NDC was financially motivated.

“When people say we’re cashing out because we do things in endorsement of the party, I’m shocked. We are supporting the party because we know what we would gain if the NDC wins. If they win and things start improving, we will all benefit,” she emphasised.

Elorm Aba joins a growing list of Ghanaian creatives who have publicly endorsed various political parties ahead of the December 7, 2024 elections.

Other notable figures publicly supporting the NDC include Mzbel, Nero X, Nacee, and DKB, among others.

Prince David Osei, Great Ampong, Kwaku Manu, Kalybos, and many others, on the other hand, have declared their support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
