The government has approved a 9 percent salary increase for all public sector workers under the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) as part of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the 2026 fiscal year.

The agreement, signed on November 9, 2025, was reached between the government (through the FWSC and the Ministry of Finance) and organised labour, following rounds of negotiations aimed at cementing fairness and stability in the public sector wage regime.

Speaking on the deal, Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson expressed gratitude to organised labour for its cooperation, stating that the increment aids efforts to enhance Ghana’s economic recovery.

“The country has gone through difficult times with high inflation and interest rates, but today both indicators have declined. The government is working to further reduce inflation from the current 8 percent to ease the burden on Ghanaians,” he said.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, described the negotiation outcome as a strong signal of the government’s commitment to labour, peace, and economic resilience.

Meanwhile, FWSC Chief Executive George Smith‑Graham expressed gratitude to Organised Labour for its role in supporting the recovery effort.

For its part, the Trades Union Congress (TUC), through Secretary-General Joshua Ansah, acknowledged workers’ willingness to accept the 9 per cent raise — while cautioning the government against introducing new levies or tariff hikes that could undermine the benefit.

He also called for all commitments made during negotiations be honoured to protect workers’ welfare.

This also coincides with the National Tripartite Committee’s agreement to a 9 percent upward adjustment in the national daily minimum wage, raising it from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77, effective January 1 to December 31, 2026.
