Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has stated that he will undertake renovations at various stadia to avoid a ban from football governing bodies.

According to him, his administration has started rehabilitation works at various stadia in the country to keep them in good shape for sports-related activities.

The media personality indicated that they are also working towards securing adequate resources, including floodlights, scoreboards, and other logistics, to complete the renovations.

In an interview with Channel One TV, Ampofo Ankrah disclosed that plans are in place to upgrade the Baba Yara, Cape Coast, and Accra Sports Stadia.

“So, we plan to upgrade these venues. We will prepare with what we have and identify what we need in terms of extra resources, technology, logistics, floodlights, or scoreboards. We also need to take preventive measures to avoid waiting for CAF or FIFA to take action.

“We need to be proactive, and that’s exactly what I want to do. We’ve started, and hopefully, we’ll get the necessary support from various sectors to ensure we don’t repeat past shortcomings,” he said.

It’s worth recalling that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting Black Stars matches during the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to technical infractions, including an unsuitable playing field.
