Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Santana, has stated that Ghana has emerged as one of the leading and most competitive tourism destinations in West Africa, citing the country’s strong safety record and rising visitor numbers.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on December 13, 2025, Abeiku Santana disclosed that Ghana currently tops West Africa in terms of tourist arrivals and ranks highly on the global safety index.

“We have been rated the safest country in West Africa. In terms of visitor arrival numbers, we are the leading destination in West Africa so we are 100% safe. The global safety index, Ghana ranks very high,” he said.

He used the opportunity to commend the Ghana Police Service and the Cyber Security Authority for their efforts in maintaining security and protecting the country’s image.

Abeiku Santana also addressed a recent viral video in which a woman alleged that she had been kidnapped by officers of the Ghana Police Service.

According to him, investigations later revealed that the claim was false.

“Concerning the video which went video where a lady said she was kidnapped by Ghana police, she later said she was paid to do that.

“Cyber Security Authority traced and tracked everything. Her personal details and even the flight she boarded,” he explained.

He cautioned against attempts to undermine the country’s security institutions, stressing that Ghana’s security apparatus remains vigilant and effective.

Abeiku Santana further noted that Ghana has become one of the most attractive destinations for tourists, particularly African-Americans, due to its safety, hospitality, and rich cultural heritage.

“Don’t joke with the security apparatus of Ghana. Ghana has become the most competitive destination for tourists, especially for African-Americans,” he added.
