Former Communications Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mohammed Amin Lamptey has claimed that the late Ernest Akushey AKA Bahubali was declared unfit for boxing by Abraham Kotei Neequaye, the former GBA president.

Ernest Akushey AKA Bahubali passed away on the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The 32-year-old boxer died barely two weeks after suffering from heavy punches in a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Reacting to the death of the boxer in an interview with Original TV, Amin Lamptey said Bahubali should have stopped fighting after he was declared unfit for boxing by Abraham Kotei Neequaye.

“Abraham Kotei Neequaye checked Baubali and realized he is not fit for boxing. I’m telling you this time live on TV. He was told to stop fighting,” he said.

Mohammed Amin Lamptey further revealed that the GBA’s Technical Director and the Chairman of Promotions also declared Bahubali unfit to box.

“Technical Director Shadrach Aquaye and Chairman of Promotions Alhaji Alhaji Tophic also said in a Board meeting that Bahubali shouldn’t be allowed to fight because he is not fit to box.”
