Former Black Stars Management Committee member Kudjoe Fianoo has urged the Ghana Football Association to delay appointing a permanent head coach until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to Kessben Sports, Fianoo advised the GFA to hand technical director Winfried Schäfer an interim role for the tournament, citing the limited time remaining before the competition. He warned that rushing into a long-term appointment could prove costly.

Fianoo believes Schäfer’s familiarity with Ghanaian football and his current role make him well-suited to guide the team in the short term, while the association conducts a thorough search for a permanent coach.

The Black Stars are currently without a substantive head coach following the departure of Otto Addo after a string of poor results.

Ghana face a tough Group L challenge against England, Croatia and Panama, with their campaign set to begin on June 17 in Toronto.

The GFA is expected to name a new coach soon, but Fianoo insists patience is key to long-term success.
