The family of the late Gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, led by MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, has formally notified the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts of his passing and announced funeral arrangements.

Sector minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie described Yaw Sarpong as a celebrated gospel icon whose music provided spiritual inspiration to many and whose contributions to Ghana’s creative arts industry will be remembered for generations.

She conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the government, the ministry, and the creative fraternity to the bereaved family.

The meeting was attended by key ministry officials, including the Director for Culture and Creative Arts, Josephine Ohene Ose, and the Director of Finance and Administration, Mabel Cudjoe, who joined in expressing sympathies and support.

Yaw Sarpong passed away on January 20, 2026, in Kumasi at the age of 66, a development confirmed by his manager, Nana Poku Ashis.

The singer was widely revered for his immense contribution to Ghana’s gospel music landscape, particularly through the Asomafo Band, whose spiritually uplifting songs have shaped Christian worship across generations.
