D Cryme has revealed that despite the dominance of social media in today’s music scene, many contemporary artistes with huge online followings still show respect and admiration for pioneers like him.

During an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the Ghanaian artiste explained that while fans often pit artistes from different generations against one another, the reality within the industry is quite the opposite. He noted that he does not engage in comparisons because many of the newer artistes who are frequently mentioned alongside him privately express deep respect and gratitude for the path he and others paved.

D Cryme explained that the absence of cameras during those interactions does not mean such appreciation doesn’t exist. Behind the scenes, many young stars have told him how much his craft inspired their own musical journeys, moments the public rarely gets to see.

Known in private life as Darlington Agyekum, the ‘Kill Me Shy’ composer stated that social media often paints a misleading picture of the industry, urging fans not to let online chatter distort the truth about artistic influence and legacy. According to him, allowing social media narratives to define success can easily lead people astray. He acknowledged his own following as genuine and organic, adding that authenticity has always mattered more to him than numbers.

Reflecting on his early career, D Cryme recalled achieving international recognition at a time when social media had little impact on promotion. He emphasized that even without digital platforms, his music reached audiences across the globe.

D Cryme also contrasted that with today’s environment, where some artistes struggle to trend despite having all the tools at their disposal. For that reason, he said, it would be unfair to compare his era to the current one, especially since his songs continue to resonate with listeners years later.
