Afropop star Wendy Shay has unveiled her long awaited 13 track studio album titled “Ready,” signaling a new chapter in her ever-evolving career.

Speaking on TV3’s Showbiz 360, Wendy Shay shared the inspiration and story behind ‘PTSD,’ one of the songs on the album.

Wendy stated that on one of her frequent visits to orphanage homes and rehab centers, she met a lady whose story inspired her to write the song.

I never said anywhere that I was coming to replace Ebony – Wendy Shay

‘’I love to go orphanages and rehab centers almost every month when I have the time. On one of my visits to a rehab center, there were lots of beautiful girls and one caught my attention. She was so isolated so I approached her,” she said.

Wendy added that the lady then let her in and they had a heart to heart conversation.

“She told me her story, that she was in a very toxic relationship and that was her first ever boyfriend, and the guy introduced her to drugs. So, she got addicted and started abusing it and the guy was abusing her as well. Fast forward, the guy is in jail, she found another guy but it was hard to receive love from him because she was so used to that abuse,” she added.

Wendy continued that according to the lady, the guy was fed up and she [the girl] understood he could not love her because she was a mess and was shattered.

She said the lady then started having suicidal thoughts.

She later checked herself into rehab to get help but she’s still very deep into it.

The Afropop sensation explained that with her background in nursing, she instantly realised the lady was suffering from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD].

The “Uber Driver” hitmaker said she ponded over the story and decided to make a song out of it, in order to get the lady’s story out there.

She then quickly headed to the studio with Bullet to record the song.

Wendy Shay added that she realised that mental health is something that people don’t talk about much so she really wanted to use her song as a medium to bring some attention to it.
