Ghanaian musician and songwriter Epixode has made an impassioned call for the construction of a statue to immortalize the late Mary Naa Amanua Dodoo, popularly known as Naa Amanua.

The celebrated singer, renowned for her pivotal role in Ga folk music and her time as the lead female vocalist of the iconic group Wulomei, left an indelible mark on Ghana’s musical landscape.

Speaking to JoyNews and monitored by MyNewsGH during the recent Bhim Festival, Epixode emphasized the profound influence Naa Amanua had on him and many other artists.

“She’s one of the most significant musical figures Ghana has ever produced,” he stated. “As a Ga, I feel it’s my responsibility to honour someone who brought so much recognition to our tribe and culture.”

Epixode’s heartfelt tribute to Naa Amanua on stage during the festival resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting her contributions to preserving and promoting Ga culture through music.

He further proposed the erection of a statue in her memory, underscoring the importance of preserving the legacy of such cultural icons for future generations.

The event was particularly special for Epixode as it marked his first-ever performance alongside his biological brother, a guitarist who travelled to Ghana specifically for the festival. “It was a magical moment,” Epixode shared.

“We embraced after the performance, and it’s my hope that we can collaborate more in the future.”
