Enzo Maresca is linked to the Manchester City coaching job if Guardiola resigns

Football pundit Richard Keys has suggested that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could resign from the club if performances do not improve.

Manchester City lost 2–0 to Manchester United in the derby, which marked the first game of interim coach Michael Carrick, much to the dismay of the champions.

Reacting to the result, Keys indicated that the Spanish manager appears frustrated by his team’s inconsistent performances and could resign either during the season or at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Speaking on beIN Sports, the analyst noted that former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca would replace Guardiola if he steps down from the role.

“And I think he’s nailed on to be gone at the end of the season. But do not rule out, remember where you heard this first, do not rule out him leaving this week. And if he goes this week, Maresca will be in charge for the match against Wolves next week. City will be apoplectic.

“I’ve said they will deny it, of course, but I’m telling you it’s on his mind to leave this week. He does this a lot. I’m not saying you can read too much into it, but on this occasion, perhaps you can,” he said.

The Citizens are currently second on the Premier League table with 43 points, trailing leaders Arsenal by seven points after 22 games, making their push for the title more difficult.
