Ebi Bright was confirmed and sworn-in on May 9, 2025

Ghanaian actress-turned-politician, Ebi Bright, has been confirmed as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

The actress, who contested as the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, was nominated for the MCE position by President John Dramani Mahama in April 2025.

Barely a month later, Ebi Bright has been overwhelmingly endorsed by assembly members, receiving 28 votes in favour and only 3 against, making her the first female mayor of Tema.

At her swearing-in ceremony on Friday, May 9, 2025, she reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the President’s 24-hour economy initiative.

“I am profoundly grateful to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the confidence he has reposed in me, and to the gallant men and women who make up his cabinet and advisers. I also thank the Honourable Assembly Members and government appointees for your endorsement,” she stated.

She added, “It is my mission to lead Tema into a bold new chapter, one defined by purpose, service, and love. My vision is to transform Tema into a sustainable, inclusive, and dynamic urban hub where industrial revival thrives within a 24-hour economy.”

Ebi Bright first rose to national prominence as an actress and media personality before transitioning into politics.

She joined the NDC and quickly gained recognition within the party, leveraging her public profile and strong communication skills.
