Ghanaian hiplife artiste Rap Fada has urged the public to not take seriously the claims made by artistes who say they do not want awards.
Speaking in an interview with Ola Michael on Neat FM, Rap Fada emphasised the importance of being nominated for and winning awards, identifying the international recognition and bragging rights that come with such accolades.
When asked about artistes who claim that awards are unnecessary, Rap Fada asserted that these artistes should not be trusted.
He explained that such individuals have already won numerous awards and, therefore, no longer feel the need for it anymore.
“Don’t trust them. They have already received enough awards and built their legacies, so they feel like they don’t need any more. That is why they downplay award schemes,” he said.
He further stated that these artistes often belittle awards in order to assert their dominance over younger, rising artistes they see as competition.
“Some of them do it as a warning to emerging artistes. When they see a young artiste is trying to speak out against veterans like them, they remind them that they already have enough awards and don’t need more,” he stated.
Rap Fada also pointed out the hypocrisy of such artistes, noting, “Some of these artistes, if they get nominated today and win, will still go and collect their plaques, no matter what they’ve said about the schemes.”
