A dog was euthanised after it attacked a young girl at a Bunnings store in western Victoria.
The dog bit the child on the lower leg while she was at a Delacombe’s Bunnings in Ballarat at about 11.10am on Wednesday.
The girl was treated at the store before she was rushed to Ballarat Hospital in a stable condition.
The City of Ballarat said it is scrutinising the circumstances around the dog attack – and confirmed the dog in question had been put down.
‘The City of Ballarat can confirm it attended a dog attack incident in Delacombe on Wednesday morning involving a dog and a young girl,’ director of development and growth Natalie Robertson said.
‘The dog was voluntarily surrendered by its owners for euthanasia, which took place on Wednesday afternoon.
‘The City of Ballarat will conduct a thorough investigation and is unable to comment further while that process is under way.’
A spokesperson for Bunnings said the company would help officials with their investigation.

‘Our thoughts are with the young girl and her family following an incident at our store,’ they said in a statement to the Daily Mail.
‘We understand the child was bitten by a dog and was treated by emergency services before being taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.
‘We will support the relevant authorities with their inquiries.’
According to the Bunnings website, stores permit ‘well-behaved’ pets in stores.
‘We always welcome assistance animals. We also welcome well-behaved pets that are on a lead,’ it says.
‘We ask that you maintain full control of your pet at all times and clean up after it, otherwise you will be asked to remove your pet from the store.’
