Kalybos was impressed with the collection of cars at the museum

Popular Ghanaian actor Kalybos (real name Richard Asante) has praised Dr Osei Kwame Despite’s newly opened Automobile Museum as a landmark achievement for Ghana’s tourism and cultural heritage.

Speaking at the grand opening on June 1, 2025, the comedian-turned-actor described the museum’s collection of rare and antique cars as “something you’d only see in movies.”

The Despite Automobile Museum, located in East Legon, Accra, is Ghana’s first world-class car museum and only the third of its kind in Africa.

It features a curated mix of vintage classics and modern supercars, including a $3 million Bugatti Chiron, a 1971 Rolls-Royce Corniche (valued at $364,790), and a Tesla Cybertruck.

Kalybos, visibly impressed, told GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, “Finding such rare cars in Ghana will boost tourism massively. I can boldly say this is one of the few collections you’ll find in Africa. For this to be achieved by our own Dr. Kwame Osei Despite is a big win for Ghana.”

The event was graced by high-profile figures, including Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and businessman Ibrahim Mahama, who lauded the museum as a fusion of “tradition, innovation, and excellence.”

The space also includes interactive simulators and educational exhibits, aiming to attract both car enthusiasts and families.

While the museum has drawn applause, some social media critics questioned its timing amid ongoing economic challenges. Others, however, defended it as a long-term investment in Ghana’s tourism appeal.
