Wayoe Ghanamannti, CPP’s running mate

With just 22 days remaining until the 2024 election, the running mate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Wayoe Ghanamannti, has proposed a significant shift in the approach toward cannabis use in the country.

According to him, if the CPP wins the election, individuals found in possession of cannabis will not face imprisonment. Instead, the party plans to focus on rehabilitation for such individuals.

Speaking during the launch of the CPP’s Economic Vision on Thursday, November 14, 2024, themed ‘Ghana’s Industrial Rebirth – A New Economic Order of Ownership,’ Ghanamannti urged Ghanaians to vote for the CPP.

He further stated that the party would ensure that youth who need rehabilitation are provided with the necessary support.

“The youth of this country, give CPP leadership power. There will be no incarceration for the possession of cannabis. Those who need rehabilitation, we will equally rehabilitate them,” he noted.

Additionally, he proposed integrating the youth into national projects to contribute to the nation’s workforce and development.

“Those who must work for this country, we will put them on state farms, on construction sites, and railway sites, and let them work as manpower for the nation,” he added.

This proposal by the CPP marks a significant departure from the traditional punitive approach of a jail term for cannabis use in the country.
