A magistrate court in Kano State, Nigeria, has issued a rather surprising order, directing two popular TikTok content creators to marry each other within 60 days following allegations of producing “indecent” videos.

The social media personalities, identified as Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, recently appeared in viral clips that the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board described as contrary to the moral and religious values upheld in the state.

Presiding over the case on Monday, October 20, Magistrate Halima Wali ruled that they must formalise their relationship through marriage within two months. She further instructed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the process and ensure compliance.

The court warned that failure to conduct the marriage within the stipulated period would amount to contempt of court. The Chairman of the Censorship Board was also tasked with supervising the execution of the marriage order.

Reports have indicated that the two TikTokers had earlier been arraigned for allegedly circulating obscene content on social media.

Mai Wushirya was reportedly remanded in a correctional facility after videos showing him engaging in romantic acts with the female creator went viral.

Authorities in Kano, a state governed under Sharia-influenced laws, have maintained that the videos violated state regulations prohibiting the production and distribution of sexually suggestive or obscene material.

The unusual court order has stirred conversations across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the legality and morality of compelling individuals to marry as punishment for alleged indecency.
