Charles Osei Asibey Jnr says a momentary loss of concentration denied him a gold medal at the African Armwrestling Championships despite helping Ghana’s national team, the Golden Arms, secure an impressive 168 medals at the competition.
In an exclusive interview, Osei Asibey Jnr admitted that nerves and intimidation from his opponent affected his focus during the final bout, forcing him to settle for silver instead of the top prize.
According to him, the referee’s quick start to the contest also contributed to his inability to regain composure in time.
Despite his disappointment, the young armwrestler praised Team Ghana for what he described as an outstanding performance and organization throughout the championship.
He commended his teammates and officials for their dedication and hard work, which contributed to Ghana’s massive medal haul and strengthened the country’s growing reputation in the sport.
Osei Asibey Jnr, son of the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling, also spoke about balancing academics with sports, describing the challenge as demanding but rewarding.
