Two-time defending champions Paris Saint-Germain have been deemed fifth favourites to win this year’s tournament, with a supercomputer viewing Arsenal as the team to beat.

PSG became just the second team after Real Madrid to go back-to-back in the tournament in the Champions League era when the French giants overcame Arsenal in May.

Luis Enrique’s side overcame the Gunners in a penalty shoot-out in Budapest following a 1-1 draw.

Ahead of the league phase of this season’s competition beginning on Tuesday, Opta’s supercomputer has deemed PSG have just a 7.1 per cent chance of clinching a third successive title.

It follows PSG having endured their worst start to a season in 19 years after losing to Lens in the French Super Cup, as well as drawing against Rennes and Lille in Ligue 1 before a 2-1 loss to Monaco on the weekend.

PSG are ranked behind Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Man City and Barcelona in the supercomputers list of favourites.

The favourites have been devised after the supercomputer ran 10,000 simulations of the Champions League season.

Arsenal have come out on top following the simulations, with Mikel Arteta’s side backed to win Europe’s elite club competition for the first time.

The reigning Premier League champions finished as runners-up in the Champions League for the second time last season, having also made the final back in 2006.

Arsenal have been given a 20.9 per cent chance of glory.

The Gunners are seen as having a 50 per cent chance of reaching the semi-finals and are 34.8 per cent to make the final.

Bayern Munich are narrowly behind Arsenal, with the German champions given a 19.4 per cent chance to win the Champions League for the first time since 2020.

Man City follow at 12.3 per cent in their first season under Enzo Maresca, while Barcelona are fourth at 8.2 per cent.

The Spanish giants last reached the Champions League final back in 2015, when they were crowned winners for the fifth time.

Barcelona’s best showings since have been two semi-finals, achieved in 2019 and 2025.

Liverpool are ranked as sixth favourites at 6.1 per cent, with Andoni Iraola set to experience his first Champions League campaign in charge of the Reds.

Record champions Real Madrid are ranked down in seventh place, with Jose Mourinho’s side given just a 4.4 per cent chance.

Their prospects are only marginally better off than Manchester United, who are given an outsiders chance at 3.8 per cent on their return to the competition.

The top ten is completed by 2025 runners-up Inter Milan and Europa League winners Aston Villa.
