In a landmark initiative to elevate Cape Coast’s status as a premier tourist destination, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) has unveiled its inaugural cohort of Sanitation Ambassadors. The official announcement was made on Thursday, January 8, 2026, by Nana Kweku Arhin, the Assembly’s Deputy Media Manager.
Among those honoured is DC Kwame Kwakye, a distinguished broadcast journalist and fatherhood advocate at GBC Radio Central. He was recognized for his consistent advocacy for environmental cleanliness, championing of citizens’ rights, and for urging authorities to act on improving the metropolis.
Reacting to the announcement, Kwakye described the appointment as humbling. “I wouldn’t take this for granted. If the CCMA under the leadership of George Justice Arthur has deemed me worthy, I am humbled to contribute my expertise towards enhancing the sanitary conditions of the metropolis,” he stated.
He further commended the inclusive leadership style of the Metropolitan Chief Executive. “Most leaders get offended when societal issues are highlighted; this reflects the MCE’s leadership style, demonstrating inclusivity and a willingness to serve.”
Kwakye, who has long devoted his work to societal reforms, views the accolade as a testament to his dedication. He pledged to devote himself to improving the overall sanitation situation within the assembly.
Sanitation Ambassadors serve as community advocates and implementers, promoting hygiene, cleanliness, and sustainable waste management. Their roles often involve public education, contributing to innovative sanitation systems, and creating local jobs—transforming waste into resources while focusing on environmentally friendly solutions for underserved areas.
Other distinguished honouree include Apostle Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey, IamDr Spice, Frank Asorba Kofi Essuman, Saint Akapo, Michael Bosomtwe, Daniel Appiah, Frederick Addison, Nana Brown, Kob Man, Richard Hagan, Nana Yarquah, Newlords Gh, Nana Ayensu, Kwesi Oppong, and the Buzstop Boys.
