The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has turned down Asante Kotoko’s request to host their CAF Confederation Cup tie against Wydad Athletic Club at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

CAF’s decision follows an inspection of the facility, which reportedly failed to meet some of the required standards to stage continental matches.

As a result, Kotoko will now host the Moroccan side at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 19 October 2025, with a kick-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.

The club confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, October 9, 2025, expressing disappointment over CAF’s verdict.

“Management regrettably announces that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined the approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Asante Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco,” the statement said.

Kotoko used the Accra Sports Stadium in the previous round of the competition against Nigeria’s Kwara United and will now return to the capital for their crucial first-leg encounter with Wydad.
