A teenager has been stabbed at a busy shopping centre and rushed to hospital in a terrifying incident that unfolded in front of onlookers.

Emergency services were called to Westfield Parramatta about 4pm on Thursday following reports of a stabbing.

Police say a 17-year-old boy suffered slash wounds to his arms and back.

The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police allege the incident happened after an argument between a group of “young people”.

The attack is believed to have been targeted and police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The teenager was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in a stable condition.

“Initial inquiries indicate the incident followed an argument involving a number of young people, and believe the attack to have been targeted,” the police spokesperson said.

“There is no ongoing concern for public safety.”

Police set up a crime scene, will investigate and are calling for anyone with information to come forward.
