Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has confirmed that media personality Kevin Taylor has fulfilled the financial pledge he made to him during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
In a video circulating on social media on Thursday, August 13, 2026, Asare was seen holding a white envelope which he indicated contained money he had received from Taylor.
The goalkeeper explained that he was contacted on Wednesday, August 12, and informed that the promised payment had been made. The funds were subsequently handed over to him.
Taylor had publicly pledged to reward Asare with $5,000 for every clean sheet he kept during Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
Asare registered two clean sheets during the tournament, meaning the original pledge amounted to $10,000.
The promise attracted significant attention during the World Cup, particularly as Asare played an important role in Ghana’s defensive efforts. His participation also made history, as he became the first goalkeeper based in Ghana’s domestic league to start a World Cup match for the Black Stars.
Although the pledge was made during the tournament, the reported payment came after the conclusion of Ghana’s World Cup campaign, resulting in a considerable delay before the commitment was fulfilled.
Asare’s video appears to confirm that Taylor eventually honoured his promise.
However, the goalkeeper did not disclose the exact amount contained in the envelope and therefore did not independently confirm whether the full $10,000 corresponding to his two clean sheets was paid.
The development has nevertheless generated reactions among Ghanaian football fans, with many commending Taylor for following through on his public commitment and Asare for acknowledging receipt of the money.
