Arsenal hold an interest in Jarell Quansah and have made contact with the England defender’s representatives.

Bayer Leverkusen do not wish to sell the 23-year-old but Arsenal want to be aware of the parameters and also know he would be open to joining them.

Arsenal are continuing talks for Ezri Konsa but Aston Villa‘s valuation has been prohibitive for the deal they want.

A Liverpool academy graduate, Quansah joined Leverkusen from his boyhood club last year. Liverpool had a buy back clause this summer, which has now expired, and they have no plans to bring him back.

Their priority remains forward positions and notably Paris Saint-Germain‘s Bradley Barcola.

Quansah made three appearances at the 2026 World Cup, and can play at centre back and right back.

With William Saliba facing a lengthy injury absence, the Gunners are chasing reinforcements at the back.

Their pre-season form has further illuminated Saliba’s absence, conceding an uncharacteristic number of goals, recently losing to Borussia Dortmund 3-2.

Quansah impressed for England at this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. After coming in to replace the injured Reece James at right back against Panama, he earned a starting spot in Tuchel’s starting XI for their Round of 16 match against Mexico.

His red card for a high challenge on Jesus Gallardo ruled him out of the Norway quarter-final victory and Argentina semi-final defeat. He returned for England’s third-placed match against France, and played 83 minutes as Tuchel’s side won 6-4.

Quansah broke through into Liverpool’s first team in 2023-24, but was limited to just four appearances in the top-flight in the side’s title-winning campaign the subsequent season.

He was brought in to Leverkusen by former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag  last July, signing for £35million.

In his debut season in Germany, Quansah made 44 appearances and scored five goals as Leverkusen finished sixth in the Bundesliga. He has also established himself in the England squad and has earned six caps.
