Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged the Black Stars technical team to prioritize defensive stability as the national team continues its quest for success under its current coach.

Speaking on the team’s recent performances, Gyan stressed the need for Ghanaians to support the coach despite the limited time available to build a competitive squad. According to the former striker, improving the team’s defensive organization must become the immediate focus if Ghana hopes to compete effectively at the highest level.

“We have to give him the hope and support to qualify,” Gyan said, adding that Ghana’s defense has become too vulnerable and allows opponents to penetrate easily.

The all-time Black Stars top scorer pointed to Morocco’s impressive defensive display at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as well as Ghana’s disciplined run to the quarterfinals at the 2010 World Cup, as examples the current team can learn from.

Although he clarified that he is not part of the coaching staff, Gyan described defensive improvement as key to the team’s future success.
