The Vice President and Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reminded the people of Obuasi how mining company AngloGold Ashanti collapsed during the reign of former President Mahama.

Addressing a mammoth crowd on Tuesday during his tour of the Obiasi East Constituency, Dr. Bawumia said former President Mahama, who was President between 2012 and 2017, supervised the deterioration of many sectors, listing a number of institutions and initiatives he said collapsed under the watch of the former President.

Among the institutions was the AngloGold Ashanti, which stopped its operations in Ghana in 2014, citing heavy financial losses, but was reopened in 2019.

”I am going into this election with someone who has been President before, and that person is former President Mahama,” Dr. Bawumia told a charged crowd.

”During his time as President, he told us the country was broke under his watch, so because of that, so many things went bad. He could not provide so many things for Ghanaians, and he cancelled so many things,” Dr. Bawumia said as he reminded residents of Obuasi how the NPP revived Ashantihold.

”During his time as President, didn’t Anglogold Ashanti collapse? AngloGold Ashanti left here, and the company folded up.

”It took us, the NPP, to bring it back. It was during our time that we brought it back to life .”

Dr. Bawumia said the example of reviving Ashantigold, which collapsed under the NDC and Mahama, reflects the superior performance of the NPP over the NDC, especially under the watch of Mahama.

”’We have done far better and he cannot match us in every sector. We have created more jobs, revived more companies, built more schools, built more airports, more public libraries and many more.’

”The former President knows he cannot match our superior record that is why he has run away from having a debate on issues and records with me.”
