President-elect John Mahama President-elect John Mahama

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called on President Akufo-Addo and the security agencies to immediately to address the issue of attempted forceful take overs of some state installations and institutions by some agitated youth.

On Tuesday, December 10, there were reports of attempts by some youth, who are supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to take over the Ghana Gas Company and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

However, in both instances, their attempts were foiled by police and military officers who were deployed to handle the situation.

In a televised speech to the nation, President-elect John Mahama urged President Akufo-Addo to ensure there is law and order.

“Since state power is still in the hands of the current administration, I call on the president and the security agencies to act decisively to curb the ongoing acts of lawlessness without delay,” Mahama stated.

He strongly condemned the actions of the youth and called on the perpetrators to cease immediately.

“I urge the youth not to vent their frustration through criminal activities. Instead, they must channel their anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our beloved nation. I urge all our citizens to remain calm and avoid actions that could harm our institutions and democracy. We have fought hard for change, and now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to rebuilding the Ghana we desire through unity and understanding.”

Mr. Mahama also urged President Akufo-Addo and the security agencies to address the issue of forceful takeovers immediately.
