Ghanaian Afro-fusion artiste Efe Keyz has disclosed that some record labels in Ghana demand sexual favours from female musicians before signing them.

Speaking in an interview on MX24 on October 18, 2025, Efe Keyz lamented the unfair treatment women in the music industry face compared to their male counterparts when it comes to record deals and label support.

“When it comes to record label, when they’re about to sign a guy, they consider anything apart from talent. But when they’re about to sign a woman, they consider a whole of lot of things.

“Most of them want the woman to be involved with them sexually. It’s something we face every day” she said.

According to Efe Keyz, while male artistes are usually assessed based on their talent and marketability, women are often subjected to inappropriate demands.

“But if it was a man, they don’t ask for any favour so why do we have to go through that as a woman? It’s not like I’m doing something for free, I’m coming to work. What has that got to do with my body?” she added.
