Jordan Ayew is Black Star player Jordan Ayew is Black Star player

History beckons for Jordan Ayew, who stands on the verge of becoming the second son of Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele to captain the Black Stars to a FIFA World Cup.

The Leicester City forward is poised to follow in the footsteps of his elder brother, Andre Ayew, who led Ghana to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, continuing the Ayew family’s remarkable legacy in Ghanaian football.

With Ghana sitting at the top of Group I in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Ayew is expected to lead the nation in their decisive final fixtures against the Central African Republic (CAR) and Comoros. A successful campaign would not only secure Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance but also etch another proud chapter in the history of one of Africa’s most illustrious football families.

Jordan Ayew’s rise to leadership has been marked by resilience, consistency, and quiet determination. The 33-year-old striker has emerged as Ghana’s leading scorer in the qualification series, netting six goals, including a crucial equalizer in the 1-1 draw against Chad in Ndjamena. His performances have been central to Ghana’s push for qualification, earning him both the captain’s armband and the trust of coach Otto Addo.

Like his brother before him, Jordan embodies the Ayew family’s enduring commitment to the national cause. Andre Ayew, Ghana’s long-serving captain, led the Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, cementing his place in history as one of the nation’s most influential leaders. Now, Jordan has the chance to replicate that feat, proving that the Ayew legacy remains deeply woven into the fabric of Ghanaian football.

Beyond his bloodline, Jordan’s leadership is defined by his professionalism, humility, and experience. Having played across top leagues in Europe from Marseille to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, and now Leicester City, his journey has been one of persistence and evolution.

His work rate and maturity have earned him respect both on and off the pitch, making him a role model for Ghana’s next generation of players.

As Ghana prepares for the decisive clashes against the Central African Republic on Thursday and Comoros in Accra on Sunday, October 12, 2025,  the sense of anticipation is palpable.

Victory in these matches would not only secure qualification but also see the Ayew brothers achieve a rare milestone in world football: two sons of the same legend leading their nation to the World Cup in consecutive editions.

For Jordan Ayew, the mission is clear: to guide Ghana to football’s grandest stage and uphold the proud legacy of the Ayew dynasty. Should he succeed, it will be a moment that transcends sport,  a story of family, leadership, and history in the making.
