Several football clubs have congratulated newly elected Pope Leo XIV on assuming the prestigious role of leading the Catholic Church after days of conclave meetings.

Spanish giants FC Barcelona wished the Pope well, expressing hopes that he would have a peaceful tenure that unites the Catholic Church and helps it flourish globally.

Italian Serie A sides Inter Milan, AC Milan, and other teams also extended their congratulations to Pope Leo XIV, celebrating his historic achievement in ascending to the prominent role.

The new Pope has been identified as US-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who will now be known as Pope Leo XIV.

His election was confirmed on the second day of voting, Thursday, May 8, 2025, by the 133 cardinal electors convened in the Vatican.

Pope Leo XIV’s selection follows the passing of Pope Francis, marking a historic moment as Prevost becomes the first American to ascend to the papacy.

His election was announced traditionally, with white smoke rising from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel—signaling to the world that a new pontiff had been chosen.

Checkout some of the reactions from the clubs below:
