Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has named Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o as the greatest African footballer, ahead of Ivorian icon Yaya Toure.

According to Ayew, Eto’o distinguished himself as one of the continent’s finest players, boasting impressive statistics and delivering magical moments that set him apart from his peers.

He noted that Eto’o, who currently serves as the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, had the ability to score crucial goals and change the course of games, helping his teams win major titles, including the UEFA Champions League and numerous other trophies at both club and international levels.

In an interview reported by GhanaSoccerNet, Ayew was asked to choose between Yaya Toure and Eto’o as the greatest African player.

He responded, “For me, it’s Samuel Eto’o. There’s a game to win, and you know Samuel will solve the problem. He always stepped up when the stakes were highest. That’s something you can’t teach. It’s not just about what he won; it’s about how he did it. Samuel Eto’o is the greatest.”

Eto’o enjoyed a stellar career, winning the UEFA Champions League three times, twice with Barcelona and once with Inter Milan.

He also claimed two Africa Cup of Nations titles with Cameroon and was named African Footballer of the Year four times.
