Controversial Ghanaian musician, Patapaa Amisty, has ignited a debate by asserting that his viral sensation ‘One Corner’ garnered more global recognition than any song released by the acclaimed artist Black Sherif.

Speaking on the Savage Room podcast, the hitmaker behind ‘Sco Pa Tu Manaa’ suggested that Black Sherif’s fame is predominantly concentrated in Nigeria, attributing this to his affiliation with Empire Records.

“Black Sherif is signed to Empire, so his music is mostly known in Nigeria, not worldwide,” Patapaa stated definitively. “I am a global artiste. Which of his songs has gone international? Even my collaboration with Kawoula is bigger than any of his.”

Patapaa went on to imply a shift in Black Sherif’s identity due to his record label. “Since he joined a Nigerian label, he’s practically a Nigerian artiste now. Have you noticed Ghanaians are no longer vibing to his music since the initial hype died down?” he questioned.

Drawing a contrast, Patapaa highlighted the widespread success of his breakout hit ‘One Corner’, citing it as the driving force behind Nigerian TikTok personality Peller’s visit to Ghana. According to Patapaa, the song’s organic popularity fueled the trend internationally without any financial incentives.

“I didn’t give Peller even a cedi to promote my song. He made a video because ‘One Corner’ was already viral. It was trending in Europe,” Patapaa claimed.

He also credited Ghanaian dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale for facilitating Peller’s visit to Ghana in the wake of ‘One Corner’s international traction.

“Shatta Wale was the one who invited Peller. I wasn’t even in the country when he arrived. Nigerians rarely support Ghanaian songs, apart from VIP and ‘One Corner’,” Patapaa stated
