On May 1, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama will officially launch the “Black Star Experience,” a transformative cultural tourism initiative aimed at positioning Ghana as Africa’s premier destination for heritage, arts, and diasporan engagement.

The event is scheduled for 6:00 PM at the iconic Freedom & Justice Monument in Accra, bringing together key stakeholders, policymakers, creatives, and media representatives.

Unveiled during President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address in February, the Black Star Experience is envisioned as a year-round celebration of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

It encompasses a series of events and festivals, including street carnivals, film weeks, fashion festivals, food fairs, theatrical performances, and concert party competitions.

These activities are designed to showcase Ghana’s cultural dynamism and attract international visitors, particularly from the global African diaspora.

A significant component of the initiative is the redevelopment of the historic Osu Castle and its environs into a vibrant tourism precinct. Plans include the establishment of arts and crafts markets, gold and jewelry hubs, and interactive historical exhibits, transforming the area into a pedestrian-friendly cultural hub.

The Black Star Experience also aims to promote Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, leveraging Ghana’s stable democracy and strategic location near the center of the world to attract international events and conferences.

It also provides a platform for young creatives and cultural activists to contribute, fostering innovation and economic opportunities in the creative arts sector.
