Kumawood actor LilWin has explained in detail why he spent over one million cedis to promote his much-anticipated movie, ‘A Country Called Ghana’.

In a discussion with Zion Felix on January 15, 2024, LilWin revealed that his primary goal for spending the substantial amount was to ensure that the movie could be featured on Netflix.

“My target wasn’t just about the premiere of the movie. It was about getting the movie on Netflix. Before a movie gets on Netflix, it has to trend in cinemas to gain attention. Once people start searching for the movie and find that it’s not on the platform, it will catch their interest and prompt them to contact you. If Netflix doesn’t pick it up, Amazon is another option. Do you know how much I could make from that?” he said.

LilWin also explained why actor Van Vicker was dropped from the movie.

“When we spoke to him, he told us how much he would charge, and we agreed to it. He then gave us his clothing measurements, and we provided everything, including his shoes. Later, he informed us that he would only be available for ten days due to his school schedule. However, I understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise during filming, so I requested at least a month or, at the very least, three weeks.

“If he had asked for more money to extend his days, we would have paid, but he insisted on sticking to the ten days. That’s why he was dropped,” he explained.

LilWin’s ‘A Country Called Ghana’ has garnered international recognition and has received over ten nominations at the Imo International Film Festival in Nigeria, including Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and others.
