Josh Acheampong, an English-born defender of Ghanaian descent, has signed a long-term deal with Chelsea.

The promising defender has signed a new deal until 2029, as announced by the club on Wednesday.

Acheampong’s future at the club had been uncertain over the past few months after talks between the club and the player’s entourage were at a standstill.

He was frozen out at the club until recently, when talks grew positive.

Acheampong made his full debut last week, starting in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League victory over Astana in Kazakhstan. He was also named among the substitutes for their victory over Brentford on Sunday.

Acheampong has represented Chelsea at the youth level but is yet to play for the senior national team. He is also eligible to play for Ghana.

However, he made his mark on the international stage, featuring for England at the Under-17 European Championships in the summer of 2023 and the Under-17 World Cup the following November.
